Wax is usually used as a one step procedure in the detail business. You can apply multiple coats but it is mainly used on it's on. I would use sealers as part of a three step process. First i would cut the car with a compound (used to strip off old wax). Second i would hit it will a polish (kinda like a wax). Third would be the sealer. If the car was pretty rough i might also clay bar before the polish. If your cars paint is in good shape (as far as being smooth) i would suggest just a wax. If the wax has worn off in places you may need to do the three steps. If it has a lot of scratches and oxydation then you may want to consider a complete wet sand and buff. For that i suggest a qualified detail shop or a body shop. hope this helps
