Power steering lines

Can I use braided lines and A/N fittings for my power steering lines or do they need to be "pressed on" type connections?
Thanks

I've never made a power steering line, but I've made many hydraulic hoses for aircraft. Assume 3000psi and build accordingly. Steering is not something you want to cheap out on.
i think most an lines and fittings are for around 350 psi. not going to be strong enough for power steering. we have our lines made at the local tractor parts store, they can get you the right hose and fittings.

Incorrect. AN refers to the specification for the fittings, not the hose in use. With the right hose spec'd, an assembly can be made to 3000 psi as said above, or even higher. I've made teflon assemblies for 6000 psi nitrogen systems
Bottomland is correct, most of the AN stuff you see advertised is low pressure stuff. Whatever you end up using, make sure it able to handle 3000lbs pressure.

The only thing you're right on might be what "you see advertised". Do a little homework like:

This site used to be so good for knowledge... Now it's nothing but "how do I fit my 460 in my Mustang?":rolleyes::rolleyes:
Sounds like DFI's getting the message!
IF your AN fittings are actual AN fittings they should be fine.
If they are Aluminum JIC's advertised as AN's i wouldn't be so sure.
This real problem is China is also making "AN" fittings.

Also More importantly I thought Power steering systems used 45 degree seats, not 37
Buy your AN fittings from an aviation supply shop. They will have a certification form to tell you where they were made, by who, etc. Don't chance chinese junk when it comes to something that can kill you, or worse, your family. I bought a few fittings and the total was a little over $10 in the difference from the speed shop parts and I know I have good stuff. Not offshore junk. Here's a link to one place:
