Alright I striped the spider gears out of my D44 and when I pulled the third member out I noticed that the Pinion had chunks of teeth missing out of it, so I decided that Since I have got it apart and have got to replace it I might as well gear it now, I understand that I have to get a third member for a over 3.92 gear to go in the 4.00+ since it has 3.50 in it, were can I get one and what brand should I look for, what ratio should I get, with the 3.50's I shifting at 5500 and turning up to 3500 in second, and do not want to go to third, have any of yall stargered gears in the front and rear,

any input would be appreciated Thanks

Gears

Larry,

Generally I think when refering to "third members" it is a 9" ford rear diff. So you pulled the centre section of your top pinion D44 front diff which is a 3.50 ratio. Your rear gears must be also 3.50 ratio. I have really been kicking around the idea of a overdriven front and came up with recommendations from 5% all the way to 10%. I am personally going to go with the 5%. I think the split for D44's is 4.10 & down and 4.56 & up. Or did you put new 3.50 D44 gears in and are now working on the rear 9" third member. For 5% over driven front with 3.50's the rear would be in the neigborhood of 3.73 ratio. I don't think the carrier/or third member needs to be changed in a rear 9" when switching ratio's. Am I understanding your dilemma correctly.

The gears in it now are 3.50's and I am going to put either 4.56 4.88 or 5.13, and would like to know which to go with, I have checked randys and they are a little higher priced than I have found else were, has anybody ever dealt with accu gears or know any thing about them

When I say third member I am talking about the piece that the spidergears are in, and the ring bolts to

Reider racing sell's just carriers for the Dana 44. Currently I'm running 38.5 Boggers with 4.56 gear's front and back. I'm happy with the ratio. I guess it depend's what your planning for the truck also.

I do not want a locked front end, for severial reasons that I have witnessed, if one tire hits a hard spot and the other is spining freelly the goes a axle shaft, and If you break a shaft on the line it is going to be a pain to drive

I run 38x12.50 TSL's and 35x16 boggers I want it to pull good up to around 5500 rpm in second, I am going to put 4.30 in the rear and 4.10 in the front since a man is going to give me a set so if he does I am going to try them

Cost isn't the final factor

I buy from randys. They are probly all made at the same place. So if you can get one cheaper it should work to.
Not necessarily I know there good and bad ring and pinions out there, the ones made in China are junk, the ones from Indonesia are better. and yes the ones made here in the USA cost the most but then we do tend to like to make a good living here, Right guys ..

I also run 4.56 front and rear with 38.5 boggers, I have a full spool in rear and a locker in front, both supporting Ricmond gears and Ukon axles.

I bought the spool and gears from Summit and the locker and axles from Bronco Grave Yard.:)

I run the same Diameter tires all the way around, I some times switch it up and put skinnys on the front but the biggest dirference is going to be when I run it on the flat track with the 40" cut hawgs on the back and the 38's on the front but the hawgs stand about as tall as the boggers

No problem, I just reread it and it was a little confusing for me and I was the one that wrote it

I wish they could have a small event for us off road guy's at the Bash, it could even be a very lose dirt drag to cut down on the mess created. I think it could be a big learning process, after all no one knows when someone is giving good advise until you see their rig run. (and there is so many combo's that work different for different class rigs):)
