I having trouble with spark plugs, they appear to be either oil or gas fouled. They appear black and soot covered, I'm thinking either the timing is way off or the carb is too rich. If it's the carb (Edelbrock 1406) how do I adjust too lean it out some? I tried using my timing light but i can't get a good reading.

Assuming that the engine is "sound" and not burning oil, the problem is likely due to the carburetor. The choke should be closed when the engine is cold and open when it's warmed up. If it's not, fix it. It also could be the carburetor's inlet valve not stopping the flow, floats sticking too low or set too high, etc. It might be time to rebuild the carburetor.;)
