I have got a 73 Lincoln that I have installed 3.89 gears in and I would like to get the speedometer to read somewhat close. Right now it is reads about 30mph fast. From the factory i believe it had 2.75 gears and around a 28.5" tire and now I'm running 3.89's with a 26.5" tire. Any ideas on what combo I need.

If it has a long tail shaft C6 your driven gear options are limited, since the output shaft has 9 drive teeth, as apposed to "regular" length tail shaft C6's that could have 6, 7 or 8 output shaft tooth counts. I use a long TS C6 with 3.25's and 27.7" tall tires I believe I use a 21 toothed driven gear and it is just about spot on. I would try a 22 or 23 toothed driven gear, although I can tell you the higher the # of teeth on the driven gear makes them a bit fragile since the tooth gets thinner as the number goes up. You can get the speedometer gears at National Parts Depot as well as many other sources. Good luck.

This is an older post but I will respond anyway.
There is no combo. Teeth on the output shaft are permanent.
Your only choice is a driven gear.
You need more teeth to slow the speedo.
Remove the gear and count.
