I'm looking to reduce the amount of mechanical advance in my stock distributor from the 21 crank degrees it's at now, to about 16. I want to try 18 initial and 16 mechanical for 34 total. I have a 10L\15L cam in there now. The width difference between the two is around .100". I have a 13L\18L cam as well. It looks like every .020" equals a distributor degree. So, I want to weld the 10L slot so it becomes a 7.5L (fitting 'ey). So, if I close the gap around .050", it should get me close. Sound thinking so far?
Do I need to be concerned about the balance of that distributor cam? Is this the correct path to take?
