Okay so I’m starting to pull my hair out over all the little details of going to the straight up timing, I’m down to what I hope is my final question. I’m stuck between the Ford Performance timing set, and the Cloyes street billet. My question is, on my otherwise stock 460, utilizing the two piece fuel pump eccentric, do I need to change my cam thrust plate or not? I’ve seen answers all over the board. If I do, is there something I can get that will bolt right in place without machining the cam gear? This is going in a heavy pickup predominantly used for towing, RARELY sees over 4k. Please let me know, still new to the engine world. Thank you!

You do NOT use a billet steel cam gear on a cast iron cam retainer.

Cast iron gear OR Billet steel with a thrust bearing.

We use this lower cost set in your situation and it accommodates the two piece eccentric.
If a one piece eccentric then a high quality OEM EFI double roller timing set with Rolon chain is a good fit.

So am I okay with this one https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6268-b429 or would you think I would be better off with the one you’ve shared? Definitely not against ordering another set if it’ll work better, just had already ordered this one. I really appreciate the help, it means a lot! And I guess one more thing, is there anything else I should do after the timing set to wake it up a little?

Run that B429 timing set 2* advanced
A properly curved distributor and free breathing exhaust with headers will net you about 300 hp.

Did I see somewhere you’ll recurve the factory dizzy too? Might have to take you up on it! Run the set advancing the cam 2° rather than in the straight up location? Just want to make sure I understand perfectly, and safe with the factory thrust plate correct?

Okay last redundant question (I hope) ford talks about torquing the crank bolt in that set to 200ftlbs with red loctite to keep the sprocket from “fretting” or something, is that really necessary on this application in your opinion? Really appreciate the help.

Hi Friends… I use a wheelchair. I'm looking for a solution for my engine. My carburetor is a Rochester QuadraJet 4bbl. I'm struggling to start my engine with PROPANE. Since I believe that you are helpful to you, What I want to ask is this; My engine should run on both propane and gasoline. So, Which "Dual Fuel Mixer" is best for my 315 horsepower engine? I would be very happy if I could find an answer… And if you know something about it, I look forward to your answers. Hope to hear it soon.

I just did my straight up timing a couple months ago. I used the Cloyes C-3079X. I used fabbed a small spacer between the cam and gear so the stock 2 piece eccentric spins freely. Works great.

I under stand. What you would do to create your own post go back to forums page click engine tech, then at the top right is a link to create new post click that and post form there..
Now is your 455 a stroked 429 or What?? if stock 455 is a GM (chevy)motor, if it is it would be best to find a chevy forum, this is a Ford 460 cu. in. site..
