whats the largest cubes out of 460 block--also does anyone make a 548 kit--a 578 would have to be a after market block right? thanks Fastfrog

For common/“off the shelf” builds a 4.5” stroke and an .080 overbore (personally I dont like the potential of thin cyl walls with a .080 overbore) put you at 557. Can you go more stroke or bore, yes but then parts get very custom.

A 548 would be an odd overbore (.030 over = 545, .040 over = 547) with a 4.5” stroke.

I have a 557 in a 1972 mustang great motor 550hp at the wheels. You can use any 460/429 block. However with the longer stroke its best to go with one of the 460 EFI blocks as the bore is slightly longer on the bottom end for better piston support. I think its a better block in many ways than the older blocks. That said i used an early 460 block and have around 45,000 miles on it with no problems. I didn't know about the EFI blocks until after mine was done.
