if i run a Diamond piston made for 4.3 stroke crank with a 6.8 rod with a compression height of 1.350 for use on a 10.300 block, could i use that same piston with a 4.5 stroke crank and use a shorter rod like 6.7, as long as i use the same block? it appears to me that its the same piston. assuming bore sizes are the same.

Most every 1.35" c/h BBF applicable shelf piston of which I am aware may be used on either the common offshore 4.3 or 4.5 stroke crankshafts without clearance issues. In fact you will find the same part number pistons listed for each stroke application but with the appropriate rod needed (6.7"/6.8").
