I may have a new victim for my 501.. A mint 1982 Fairmont future, baby blue, no rust, 49k miles... current project is a completely gutted 1990 hatchback mustang buried in at least 3 layers of paint and an unknown amount of bondo that I bought running and driving for $900. I then sold the engine for $375 so I am $525 + a pair of sfc's into it..

I already have 50 hours of rust repair into the fox, but I could chalk it all up to learning experience as I had never worked on a car in my life before this... I believe everything I have so far is a direct swap.. From what I understand, they are a little lighter than the mustangs and have a longer wheelbase.. anything I'm overlooking? It's tempting to start with something in such great condition...

Go for it!

(and ask Zephyrbob about how much difference there is between the Fairmont/Zephyr and Mustangs) ;)

He!! Yea dude, I'd say drop that big monster down into the engine compartment of the Fairmont, And Dare to be different!!! I'm not sure about the hidden differences from the Fairmont as compared to the Mustang bodies, but the odd Ford cars from the mid 70s-80s have been ignored by the performance minded rodders/builders for to long and will soon be forgotten if someone don't build and preserve them. The MUSTANG has carried the Ford banner WELL for many decades, but at times its a good thing to be different!!! I too will soon be fitting one of these odd-balls with a stroker engine and will deal with the difficulties and differences as they arrise also. What ever path you take I wish you luck dude!

They have 5 more inches of wheelbase, everything for a Fox Mustang will pretty much bolt right on. That Mont looks pretty clean, there's a lot to be said for starting with a clean, rust free car. I bought and ended up scrapping 3 cars before I found my wagon and it's so much nicer not having to deal with rust. Lots of info and tech help here http://vb.foureyedpride.com/index.php

Monty's are definitely unique.. does anyone know if it's possible to get a 275x60x15 tire under a monty without converting to a rear coil over setup?

Yea, just like an early fox mustang. All my sn95 stuff should be a direct swap from what I've read

I have a 78 zeph. yes it is a fox however they are definitely not the same as a stang in a lot of ways. I have owned a 84gt, 85, 90 fox stang and one sn95, a 97gt.

Great looking Fairmont. Leave the body and interior like it is and bracket race it, can you spell SLEEPER!
I have a friend with ad '80 T'bird/460 looks stock from the outside except for the tires, runs 11.50's.

Dam dude, that is one sweet ride! I know you must have tons of time and $$$ invested into this machine and it looks awesome. If it runs as good as it looks it must be one fast ride. I love to see these forgotten era of autos done up this nice. Spot on 738drvr!!

I say build it, they are very cool cars once hotrodded. There was one that used to race at the track near my house and it ran in the 9's it hauled down the track, loved watching it.

Build it. it's the FIRST Fox chassis so all the Mustang stuff will bolt on. SN95 stuff too although the SN95 stuff may be slightly wider in some regards, rearends, front a-arms, etc...

I have a 78 Futura that had a 351W in for years. Nice street sleeper.

I think I'm gonna buy it. Meeting the owner tomorrow to check it out. I'll post pics if I end up getting it
