I removed my water inlet cover (no water pump since it is boat) and noticed it had the factory steel water pump backing plate which of course was all rusted. Do I need this plate if I am not using a water pump?
Also if I don't need the water pump backing plate, I only need the rear gasket correct (inlet plate to timing cover gasket?)?
Picture of my inlet cover (made of aluminum) also added for reference.
Edit: I think I could get away without running one but there would be more water sitting in the timing cover cavity during storage and harder to drain all the water out of that area without one?
