A buddy of mine called me and asked if i wanted this 460 big block a friend of his had. The guy didny know anything about it just wanted it out of his way. I had him find the casting numbers and after finding out it was a c8ve block and heads i said id take it. $100.00. I get it home and notice all new gaskets. Cool. Then i notice new lifters and a cam that looks like its never been ran
Well thats cool i thought. The motor had no intake so i decided to pull a head and check the cylinders. Holy crap brand new .040 over TRW flat tops. Turns out its a 429.
So ive now realized ive just bought a brand new 11:1 437ci motor, never ran, for a $100 bill.
Ive been looking for a fun street big block for a fox body i have and now ive found it.
What do you guys think i can expect motor wise. Im guessing with a decent cam/intake 420-440hp???

I would say that you would have to give us more info that flat top pistons to determine power, while you have the head off measure deck height and see if it is zero decked. Check for larger valves in the head, are the heads ported, do the heads have a proper 3 angle valve job, have they been milled? I would pull the water pump and timing chain cover and see what is there for a timing set, I would even pull the cam and measure it to see what lift it is and possibly get a custom one here from one of the builders to fit my needs.

If your hoping for 440HP from flat top pistons in a 429 and nothing else done other then a decent cam, I would say no.

Definitely a good score for sure, now just tweak it and make it rock.

The heads have been machine. I dont know how much. They are not ported. Looks to have a fresh valve job and springs. Junk timing set. Ill order a roller timing chain. Im really just hoping for 400 motor horse.

Well I would say spend some time porting and if your are changing you timing chain to a double roller you might as well get a custom cam and recurve your dizzy and you will hit 400+ and be in it for under $1000. But definitely drop the pan and check bearing clearances and have a look around while it is out and easily accessible.

Yeah im taking it completely apart. I dont trust something i know nothing about. I have to pick up a dizzy and intake for it still.
