I had a nice first run, taking off at idle, and I ran 12.3 @ 116.83 The next run I rev'd her up a little more, and had a nice launch, and was going through the gears until the 3-4 shift. I couldn't get it in 4th gear initially, and it took alot (in drag racing time :D) to get it shifted. I went 12.33 @ 112.31 with the delay getting it in gear. I had my best 1/8 mile time ever at 7.86 @ 92.00 My last run was a total disaster, because every gear wouldn't shift smoothly. It's time for an adjustment with the clutch fork. By the time I got home, I couldn't get it into reverse, without shutting the car off, getting it in reverse, and restarting the car. The same thing happened at the Bash two years ago, and a quick clutch adjustment cured all my shifting problems.

This was my first runs with the new rear rebuild, both housing and differential. The new Detroit True Trac must be doing it's job, because I put the white marks on both rims and tires, and with the Drag Radials at 17, 20, and 23 psi, I spun the tires on the rims a couple inches. I'll have to try more pressure when I come to the Bash. It really hooked up nice, with no wheel hop this time. I really didn't get on it with a good 3000 rpm clutch dump, because I welded everything up, and wanted to make sure it was good. :D I'll jack it up this Friday and get it right again. Next trip will be the Bash.

The day started off great, because I drove the Fairlane to work on my daily 43 mile one way commute. The Garden State Parkway (Raceway) is a great proving ground to check out performance. :D I went from work to the track, and managed to bring it home from there. :cool: Lastly, I weighed the car on Raceway Parks scale, and it's 3912 lbs with me in the car. This is alot of weight to get going in a hurry.

Nice job Pat... Sounds like with a little adjustment, you'll be back on track...:D

There is nothing a fun as a 4 speed, but not so consistent!!

Sounds like a bit of tweekin and you'll be bangin away again. You will get it! With your best 1/8, your going the right way:D

Pat glad to see your running it again. Sounds like you had a good day with it dispite the clutch.

Sounds good Pat, but I am suprised at the weight, I know I have dropped a few things on the Galaxie but with me in it I am at 3920, so suprises me you being almost the same with that smaller car.
Granted I am running an FE instead of a 385 series but really thought it would be lighter.

Still that isn't bad for a shakedown run, now just need video :cool::cool:

Huh, you shift with the clutch? ;) Nice work. The cars I like most are the ones that drive to and from the track (and don't run a 16+ like those ricers). Hope to see you run if I ever get to the track this summer.

Switching from a 390/4spd to a 460/c6 picked up 200 pounds in my 66 Galaxie. And 10 mph. :p:D

I won't tear it up Dan, before the Bash. :D I'll figure things out on the test and tune day. This is like a new car, with the Caltracs, new Detroit True Trac, bigger carb, and figuring where the tire pressure needs to be, so I don't spin it on the rim, and not spin it on the track. :D Y'all can help me out in Kentucky. :cool: I'll adjust the clutch tomorrow, and do a little test run.

I have a hydraulic clutch setup, with an external slave cylinder, pushing a stock style steel fork. The rod from the slave to the fork is very short. I only adjusted it one other time, and that was at the Bash two years ago, but it was shifting smoothly ever since, until that second run. I have a Hurst Competition Plus shifter, so it's not the best for a quick shifting 4-speed, but it looks great inside the car, without the large opening for another type. I should be shifting again like this, after a minor adjustment. :D

Finally adjusted the clutch today, and I'm back in business. I had quite a bit of slop in there, so that's why I had so much trouble getting into gear. Went for a little pre-Bash ride and she's shifting smooth again. I finally fixed my emergency brake too, so I killed two birds with one stone while I had it jacked up. I noticed the end of the wires to the electric fans looked a little crispy, so I bought two new 40amp relays and crimped two new quick connects. Loading it up on the trailer Wednesday, and heading out Wednesday night. I can't wait. It's been awhile since I had a nice roadtrip. :cool: If I just get my launch and 60' time figured out, it would be the icing on the cake. Anything under 1.8 would be stellar to me. :D
