1702 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Mark Laczo
will i be ok using a jegs OE style performance balancer? says its good for up to 6500rpm... im copying the 500-525hp build off this site and will be shifting at 6k??
ALSO it says int. balanced, whats the diff. in external balancing and internally, is one better or more expensive?

thank you and im sorry if this had been answered somewhere else...

On the 429/460 engines the balancer is the same regardless of int or ext balancing. My personal opinion is to run a good quality sfi balancer on anything other than a stock rebuild. just for the extra insurance. Only a few dollars more will get you a good one. btw.... not a fluidampr, lots of people have bad experience with them and there are other choices avail.

jegs balancer

If you look at the ad again, you'll notice it says external balance must use the part # below in addition to the balancer.Which would be the balancer spacer with the hatchet weight.
Hope this helps,
Russ

Cost of balance

My guy charges $175.00

Clay
plus the cost of mallory if needed... the 175 is the labor
For most builds, I prefer the FRPP high performance balancer; they have one frequency tuned for under a 4.140" stroke and now one for over a 4.150" stroke.
Dampner

Randy,

I didn't know this. Are there different part numbers associated with those dampners ? I am going to be using the FRPP dampner and everything is back from the balancing shop but I had the dampner for a year or so, will that cause any problems you can for see ? It will be a 4.5" stroke Scat forging for a 557" if that helps.

Thanks Mark
Yes ... there are different ones offered; new this year ... they have a different durometer rubber inside.

Thanks for those parts numbers.

I sent you a PM about my specific application to not clutter up this thread.
