I was cking out the memberlist hoping to find someone located near a vehicle I want to purchase and realized that maybe 1/4th of the members listed have 0 posts, and if there is a website associated with them, most of the time it is for Viagra or Ciallis or some B.S. spam page.Would it be a huge deal to delete these guys from the list to make it a little quicker to look for a 460 ford friend when we need one?Just wondering, Andy.

Man I feel the same way

every time i want too look up someone you have to go thru page after page of those folks. I wish their was a search option on the member list page, where you could just type their name in and it comes up. Instead of going thru name after name after name

what do you think about this chilly?

I can delete members, it takes about 90seconds per user once I'm into the admin panel. To be honest considering the number of bad users that are out there, it's not something I really feel like doing. Figure 1000 bad users, that's right at 25hrs worth of work.

I hear that! Although I had only a few hundred bogus "users" on my forums to delete, I still deleted them and even with a few to delete compared to this forum I still took the time. Today, I keep my forum fairly "tight" and eliminate the bogus users as I receive their requests.

I too, would volunteer my time to help you to eliminate these leaches!

You can do a search for members IF you know the name. Look in the Search section  "Search for Author"

Search by location

Those are great ideas for searching for member, but if you want to search by location, thats a little tough. When you bring up search by location,it only lets me start on pages 1,2,3,4 or the last 3 or 4 pages. What do you do if you are looking for someone who lives in ,say,Minneappolis, near the middle of the alphabet?I could only figure out to go thru the pages 1 at a time to get there, and on dial-up that takes about 15 or 20 secs to bring up a page. It just annoyed me to see all those member names(spammers) that shouldn't be there taking up space and time. But if its as time consuming to delete them as Chilly says, I understand why it's done that way.
I also would help with policing the memberlist, but that may not be an option for the administrater to choose.
This is the forum that I visit the most and want to keep it friendly, usefull and accesible.Andy.

I just went thru the first 3000 registered members searching by location, and had not yet got to anyone that had filled in a location.I would guess that Chilly is WAY conservative on his guess of 1000 spammers needing deleted. There are currently 7389 members registered.I wonder what that # will be tomorrow at this time?
Is there any way to make LOCATION a required field when registering, and would this help slow down the problem?

I see. Even though they are in the memberlist, that does not always mean that they have been approved?

In the last 30 hrs. I count about 18 requests for membership that are not legitimate. At that rate it comes to around 5800 a year.AMAZING!!!
