Now that my motor is running good, my tranny took a crap on me. Since I'm pulling the tranny, I want to put a different torque converter in it. I want to use my current torque converter behind my 460 turbo motor since it has anti-balloon plates, etc.

I'm wanting a 3,500 stall torque converter that is in good, immediately runnable shape.

Have a good day!

got one.... but

Hi
I've just bought a car that has a 3500 stall in it behind a 460/C6.
I am reducing the rear gears from 4.56 to 3.50's for Street use (it was a 1/8 mile Drag car). As such I want to pull the 3500 stall converter, because I am told it will burn-up with street driving & a 3.50 gear.

Do you agree with this ?
If so, do you have a lower Stall converter to Trade ?
The car will not be delivered (long distance buy) until mid to end of March.

let me know what you think

Mach1Steve:
This is an area of great debate between people. In a way, it really depends on how 'hard core' you are. Some people say that motor plates, full manual automatics, and roll cages aren't streetable, but I have 2 of the 3 and will soon have all three in my car.

I, personally, disagree with the statement that a 3,500 stall will be ruined by extended street driving. As long as you keep the temps under control by using an adequate tranny cooler, you should have no problems directly due to the stall.

I am looking for a higher stall to put in my 97% street driven car and I expect absolutely no problems.

I currently have a 2,800 stall in the car and am not removing it because of any problems. Instead, I am building a turbocharged 460 and want to use my current torque converter for that motor due to the converter's anti-balloon plates, etc. Therefore, I do not have one to trade you.

I am planning on pulling my current tranny this weekend and re-installing it next weekend. With that being the case, I will not be able to wait until the end of March anyways.

Ultimately, though, it's up to you as to how streetable a higher stall is. Have you owned cars with higher stalls before? Been around them on a regular basis to know how much the rpm 'flash' at stoplights bothers/excites you?

It's fine if you decide not to use that high of a stall, but don't do it because you think it'll kill your tranny.

Have a good day!

I'll try it 1st then.....

I'll try it out 1st then and see how I like it.
I had a 73 Mustang back in the 80's with a 3,000 stall converter and a 3.91 rear end that turned Mid 12's in the 1/4 that was totally streetable, and you couldn't tell much the 3,000 stall converter was there.
I'll just make sure I put a decent tranny cooler on it if there isn't one there already.
Thanks

JW stall converter for sale

I've got a JW that was in the C-6 I've just sold monday
It was in a mud drag truck and stalled around 2800-3000 in LOW RANGE
4X4 through the transfer case. This converter will be around the 3500 to 3700 range in a 2wheel drive car. If your intrested I'll take $400.00
for it I think i paid about $800.00 a year and a half ago for it.
There's not many miles on this converter since I only make 200ft passes at a time and only made about 20 races.

Michael, I have a 10" converter that I aquired in a purchase of some engine parts from a friend a few years back and never used (was new when I got it). It was built by a local guy, and is supposed to stall at 3,500 behind a 500h.p. 460. I'll take $100.00 plus $20.00 shipping, but no guarantee what it will stall at.

Email me if interested. [email protected]

Thanks for the offer Bob, but I could wait no longer and ordered a new one earlier this week.

Have a good day!
