I have a 460 that was supposedly out of a 70 Lincoln. However it’s a D1VE 6015-AA Block, so it’s at least a 71.
The heads are D3VE-A2A…. Okay so it’s at least a 73…
small blocks are so much easier to identify smh
anyhow, since I have no way of actually knowing what year this motor Is other than a 71 block and 73 style heads.

QUESTION IS;
If all 460 blocks are basically the same, what is the deck height differences between the production years?

Date codes on the block could help you narrow down what vintage you are dealing with.

I haven’t gotten to the valley yet to see what’s there, but in the back of the motor up & right of the crank it is cast 460-1 with 17 just below. Obviously 460 is self explanatory, what’s the 1 and 17 mean??

68 to 1970 deck height 10.300 except 2v engines which were 10.310
1971 10.310"
1972 until end of production 10.322"

Based on block revision number your engine is 73 to 75.

The valley and rocker areas on the heads will have the casting dates. 2M17 would be an example of Dec 17 1972 for a vehicle produced in early 1973.

On the back of the block drivers side just below the cylinder head will be a stamping. 3H598123 is an example.

In your case the differences between a 1973 and 1978 engine are minimal.

On mine it has 2B508683.
what does that tell me?

2 is the year
B is the plant code
508683 is the serial number consecutive.

The casting date for the block will be in the valley.
