What kind of rod was it??...if its got a good ARP rod bolt, that wont help much for cheap a$$ China rod made of inferior metal....just sayin!!
They're ALL made in China, except the ones that cost $1500/set.

I still want to see pictures of the carnage.
I can post a pic of the damaged journal on the crank, but it's not very exciting. Motor definitely stopped in short order. There is some heat discoloration. You can see where a rod hit one of the counterweights, but nothing else of note. Any bets on whether or not the crankshaft shop can repair it? :)

If there was some heat discoloration,,,,,,,,,then that's a pretty good sign that it was spinning a bearing. Now the bearing may have spun due to a broken rod bolt, or a 100 other reasons such as dirt or foreign material imbedded in the bearing.

To me it seems a different story other than my engine was doing fine and all the bearings looked great, and then all of a sudden a CHP rod broke. I have never seen those H-beam rods break without some other factor being the cause or contributing source.

For example, I've seen broken valve springs, eventually break a valve head off, that then destroyed a piston, which in turn broke a 6.700 / 6.800 H-beam rod or twisted it all out of shape and locked up the engine.

Hope this helps,

First, it ain't cheap.

Second, the Chinese invented steel. Western man just took the credit in the history books.

Third, I've used ten of thousands of set with no more breakage, when used in the correct application, than I have American parts, when used for the correct application.

Rods almost never break, not even the stock one, unless abused. For that matter parts almost never break, unless a tuner or builder (or driver) needs to cover his tracks.......

That ought to light this place up for a while.

I agree. Last fall I had a customer break a Scat I beam rod in a circle track engine after 2 seasons of use. Upon inspection I found that the engine had developed a coolant leak which filled the crankcase with water. The oil looked like ready whip in the pan and that's what caused the problem not the rod itself. They are usually the victim yet they often take the blame... The rod was completely black can you imagine what that must have looked like when it was turning 7500rpm when the track was heavy? He was passing a guy for the lead when the fun suddenly stopped...

I think you're correct to a point. I've seen some of the lousy quality of many China parts (especially "Pro-Comp" and "Professional Products"), but have witnessed more than a few outright failures of "CAT" brand engine parts.

Steel is steel, but I do think the Chinese cut corners on things like heat treating and porosity.

Not #7, at least!! All other journals look like new. Surprisingly, the crank is only showing .003 runout (bend)... Easily straightened. And to clarify, I just bought the crank when he sold everything off.
