Hey guys, 1st post.

I have a 473 that I'm currently putting a429 heads and a matching victor intake. I have a new 3 circuit 1050 Dominator and I'd like some feedback on making it streetable.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Its the intermediate circuit I'm worried about most.

Thanks!

It's new... not cobbled together. Brand new, in the box. I have not taken it apart to check for the power valves, nor have I changed anything from the way it came out of the box. It is in new condition, meaning new in the box, from Holley, not modified in any way.

I took it out, looked at it, said to myself "Wow Chuck, this thing looks a little more complicated that what I'm used to, I'd better ask the Ford 460 gurus their opinion."

I currently am running a 473" 10.5:1 compression Comp Cams 275DEH, C9VE heads, ported. TorkerII and an 850dp. MSD Bro Billet Distributor running 38* total timing, all in by ~2500.

I got a good deal on a pair of M-6049-A429 heads with a matching Victor intake, with the 4500 flange. I then got a better deal on a brand new 1050 Dominator to go with it.

The rest of the car is an '84 Mustang Hatchback, weighs 3035#, TH400 with a reverse manual and trans brake, 2400 stall, 3.73 gears and 26" tall drag radials.

I plan on installing an Air/Fuel Ratio meter in it to aid with tuning.

I started doing some reading on the internet (Bonjour, it must be true, right?) Not finding a whole lot conclusive. The guys who know these carbs seem to be pretty tight lipped. SO... having said all that,

Does anyone have any ideas or good tips on how to tune these for the street?

I've been wrenching on cars for 30 years, been Master ASE for 28 years and have done LOTS of carb tuning on Holleys and Quadrajets. I have never attempted to tune a Dominator. Meaning I have never worked on one. I know its standard Holley metering and jets and power valves, but the intermediate circuit is what confuses me. I have no doubt that I'll eventually figure it out in time, I was just hoping for some constructive advice on where to start.

I have always used the 8896 3 circuit Dominator on all my street/srtip and drag race engines and have always had good service from that list number carb but on the street/strip engines you will have to use the correct P/V's when tuning also in some cases you will need to change the air bleeds as well, but if you think its too much tuning than just sell the carb you have and buy a 8082 Dominator its a 2 circuit unit, good luck

I guess my whole mental block is how the power valves and the intermediate circuit work together. Seems to me that you can tune them well by possibly running a stiffer power valve than you would use on, say, a double pump carb.

Should be a fun learning experience.. :)
