A441 Heads on an IDT Premier Block?

Hello,

I'm new to this forum. It's great to find a site with so many enthusiastic Ford 460 people. I've been in the process of developing an A441 head motor for a comp eliminator car for a while now. The block we chose is the IDT Premier. Is anyone aware of any problems using this head on that block? In particular, is the water jacket in the lifter valley thick enough to allow us to machine the reliefs we need for the exhaust pushrods? Just thought I'd ask before I start cutting

Okay, I did a search on "A441" and got a lot of hits. According to the posts on here, the heads I have are the B441A castings. Kaases website has them listed as A441 and when you talk to them that is how they refer to them. So does the "B" mean they are the Roberts design and the "A" is for a 4.9" BS? Anyway, the ones I have are the 4.9 BS NHRA versions.

CW, The B441 & C441 hemi heads are the Roberts design hemi heads. The really HUGE ones!!! The B head is 4.9" BS & the C head is the 5" BS. The A441 hemis are the older style used prior to the Roberts design heads. They are approximately 4.3" thick from deck to valve cover rail. They are the AR style & what Carroll Carter sells at C&C Motorsports. Here is a pic of my C&C head(A441 style). Hope this helps... :D

I pretty concerned about the IDT block now. If I can't clearance it for the B441 heads, I'm going to have to pony up the extra bucks for an aluminum block... On the bright side, I suppose the aluminum block is about a 100lbs lighter isn't?

Cliff, if you decide to go with an aluminum block, give Carroll Carter a call a C&C Motorsports (703-368-7878). Awesome man to deal with. He owns the patterns, has them cast, distributes, & sells them. I am going up ther this Saturday to pick up my block. It has been prepped, pressure tested , & stressed relieved. The Sykes Brothers(they do my heads) & Rick (FordTek1) are making the trip with me. Plan on having a good discussion with Carroll Carter on my hemi build. I really want to lock down what size motor we are going to build. Keep us posted on your Comp Eliminator build. That will be awesome having a BBF with RD Hemi heads running in Comp. What size motor are you planning on running? Is it going to be a small cubic inch high RPM screamer?
If you want a 10.3" deck Roberts design block, Mr. Carter has done an update so yopu can machine the pushrod grooves. The RD alum 10.3" had the same problem of cutting into the water jacket. :D

The A-460 Block works fine with the B-441 heads. I'd hate to have to start cutting the pushrod grooves, but I've seen several that were done and didn't strike water . The alum Ford block is physically bigger, so the grooves have be deeper, that's where you run into problems. One of the solid C-C blocks would kinda solve that problem, cept for the hole in yer wallet!

If your careful and take your time the notches for the push rods don't need to be that deep with the A460 block and the A441 heads. The biggest pain was the extra iron that was in the way, and preventing inserting the lightwieght Crane Z-bar lifters. (The added "ears" to the deck for the 18 bolt heads.)

BTW- I'm building a B/AA 552 ci Hemi. But the index is getting hammered.
