I met a guy that used an E4OD and computer out of an 89 F250 with a diesel. It worked but had issues with the shift points. This unit has only the TPS on it and the cam sensor to give the computer it's info it needs, so he sent off the computer to a guy who worked at Ford and retired from there about 15 years ago and the computer came back with the new shift points burned into it. Works good... but why not just get an E4OD out of a truck that had a 460 in it? there are a lot of dualies out there that had 460's in them. AOD's might also work?
What he said, the old E4OD's that were on the 7.3IDI's were simple. If you can get the TPS setup on the carb the rest of the swap is the same amount of work regardless of the trans manufacturer. I have swapped Ford PCM's many times trying to get old trucks running. I would be very surprised if an early 460PCM for an E40D would not work just fine even though it's of an EFI engine. The big thing is to make sure the output speed sensor is in the trans and not on the rearend of the donor as some of them use the ring gear sensor in the shift point calibration.
