Hello all,
My name is Rich and I am new to the forum. Someone at BBfox sent me. I am interested in a really fast car. My 93 lx will run mid 11s now with NOS., and thats really pushing it. I just want a faster car, not interested in learning how to build one, its just not my thing. I just wanna drive it.. :D
a friend recommended dropping a 521 ford racing BB in. What do some of you think? The car is carberated now and I think going back to efi would be too much trouble and $ to add a blower. I feel the sky is the limit with the BB and I wont really have to push it. I am really know nothing about engines, like I said..I just wanna drive it. Any help and info will be greatly appreciated. Look forward to talking with some of you, thanks.

Rich with a 460 in it you should be able to hit the mid 11's on just engine and no N2O . the 521 crate engine is a fast one for yo it should be in the low 10's with it...easy... or quicker

oh welcome to the board lots of reading and learning here....

thanks for that info. would you agree that the crate engine from ford racing is a good choice. Here are the specs-

M-6007-521RT* Rear Sump T-pan

580 HP @ 5750 RPM

600 ft./lbs. of torque @ 4500 RPM

10:1 compression ratio (nominal)

Forged aluminum dished pistons

Forged steel H-beam connecting rods, M-6200-C514

Billet steel mechanical roller camshaft , M-6250-A514 (mechanical roller camshafts not recommended for street use; contact Techline for more details)

High-performance rear sump oil pan, fits most passenger cars that came equipped with rear sump pans

MSD Distributor with M-12390-H Bronze Gear

Cast nodular iron crankshaft, M-6303-A514

New heavy duty 4-bolt main siamese bore block M-6010-A460

“Super Cobra Jet” aluminum cylinder heads M-6049-SCJB

“Victor” single plane intake manifold M-9424-H429 (requires Dominator carb)

Look at what you get

A 521 cubic inch engine assembly that includes the items listed above and a multi-index timing chain set, push rods, roller rocker arms, heavy duty HV oil pump, pickup tube, high-performance oil pan, Ford Racing valve covers, aluminum front cover and water pump, high-performance damper, flywheel, spark plugs, related long block engine parts and NEW M-6010-A460 4-bolt main block

Ford Racing “Super Cobra Jet” aluminum cylinder heads. They flow significantly more than production 460 heads. Combustion chamber volume is 72cc (nominal)

Ford Racing “Super Cobra Jet” valve train includes dual-valve springs, retainers, keepers, seals and premium stainless steel swirl polished valves. Intake valve diameter is 2.20" and exhaust valve diameter is 1.76"

Ford Racing high-performance solid roller mechanical camshaft M-6250-A514 provides significant horsepower increases above 3500 RPM and good low-end torque. Valve lift is .640" intake and exhaust. Duration at .050" is 254 degrees intake and 258 degrees exhaust

Ford Racing forged aluminum dished pistons, bore size 4.390"

I'm not really sure what all this means, but for 10 grand I would hope its top notch stuff.. :D

I think a 521 with around 600hp can be built for less than Ford Racings 10k price tag with some careful planning research and patience.

hopefully Ill be around 8k total with my 521 and pretty much everything is new.

I had the opportunity to buy several really good short blocks and pretty much complete engines but it always seems some particular part just isnt right for my build. In most cases its comp ratio and my need to use pump gas with 72cc heads.
