Blue Thunder intake question

I have a 4120# galaxie witha mild built 460 with ported c8ve heads with crobrajet sized valves, a solid reeds cam,and flattop pistons. I was wondering if a Blue thunder itake would work on it very well at all. I now have a stock super cobra jet on it with a 850 demon and it runs consistent 12.50's. any suggestions would be cool.

Blue Thunder vs SCJ intake.

The SCJ cast iron intake you are using is a good piece. Switching to a Blue Thunder or Holman Moody single 4V intake probably won't make much difference. The BT (#M-429CJ-4V) and HM (#C8HM-9425-EA) manifolds are basically aluminum versions of the cast iron SCJ manifold. You will drop some weight however.

The ultimate dual plane single 4V intake right now is Edelbrock's RPM Air-Gap #7566. If you need some manifold heat for cool weather driving then I would go with either the Performer RPM #7166 or Weiand's Stealth #8012 or #8021. The air flow science incorporated into these manifolds is more advanced than those based on the original SCJ.

My own setup is similar to yours with the use of a cast iron SCJ intake and port matched D0VE-A heads. Until I upgrade to aluminum heads and take things to a new level of performance I will stick with the factory intake.

I am on a budget and found the intake cheap. I have run a tunnel ram with two 750's and went 1200's in good air. The blue thunder intake has a dominator flange and looks a lot bigger inside than the cobra jet intake.
By the way what is your ride. Thanks for the info Castiron!

"Blue Thunder" does also offer a standard port size, high rise, two-plane intake manifold with a "Dominator" carb pattern #IM-429S-D.. Not a copy of the SCJ iron manifold at all.
They make the same manifold with CJ size ports also.

Good runnin' manifolds and not as expensive as one might think.

I ran a highly modified Blue Thunder dual plane dominator flange intake on my recent FE EMC entry. It outperformed my equally highly modified Victor from 2800 all the way to 6500RPM....

64gal-Re: whats my ride.

My ride is an 85 Mercury Marquis. Last summer it was converted to 5 lug using Ranger disc and axles. Wheels are 15x6.5 from a 95 Grand Marquis. The rear is an 8.8" from a 93 Mustang. Rebuilt Traction-Loc w/carbon plates, 3.08 ratio.

472 w/ported D0VE-A heads, SCJ intake, 750 cfm Holley, shorty headers, C6 w/manual valve body. Cam will probably be an Isky 311360. Combo will be dropped in this summer to replace an Isky cammed 3.8l V6.

No need to spend lots of money for some street giggles in a sleeper. No one expects granny's Sunday go to meeting car to pack big block heat.

The blue thunder that I have has the CJ sized ports, with a dominator flange as I was saying. I didn't know much about the blue thunder intake. The runners are huge, even bigger than my tunnel ram. I figured that the big runners would kill the velocity and make the car a pig off the line. But I can always grow into it when I build a bigger motor. thanks for the info.

That's an interesting statement.
I'd be interested in learning more about the modifications.
