well its up and running finally.still have some things to finish on the car before test and tune.engine build is a .060 over early a460 block, custom flat top pistons, boss "S" rods, crower 4.15 crank, kaase b9 heads, crane custom street roller cam,251 int 261 eh duration at .050,.680 lift intake and exh.
i made my own victor 460 style intake,(never do that again!) because i started on it before jon announced his new boss heads and intake parts.carb is a 8082 1050.compression is approx 11-1.the headers are for a 69 mustang boss 429,but the 67-70 all have similar frame width and shock tower/suspension locations,i was able to use them with only a few dings here and there.bought them from summit, hedman brand.
i did the shock towers my self and it was not that hard to do.most people run out and buy a new aftermarket front end and spend anywhere from $2k to $5 right up front!i spent about 25 hours and $300 bucks including the roller bearing spring purches on mine.
trans is a max built c4 by dana sniff here in orange county.4000 stall converter,4.30 gears, detroit locker in a strange alum case, with strange 31 spl axles.
this is a street strip car at this point, and i will see how it goes on both.

What tracks do you race at in SoCal? I am going to keep an eye out for it, would like to see it in person in the pits.

I really wanted to go with the B9 heads as well, but just didn't have the budget to do so. Very nice.

more details on build

thianks for all the positive replys!

windsor-- i made the intake from a standard 460 victor intake.the boss heads have a 15 degree diffrent angle from that is closed up from standard wedge heads,so when you mill the intake face to fit it removes much of the top edge and bolt holes.so i had to weld plates on the back side, weld material on top of runners, make all new bolt bosses and modify the end holes.also i had to weld some on the bottom of the intake port at the head as it was lower than the heads port.i did much of this before kaase offerd his for sale.oh well! no dyno on the engine yet.

a70maverick-- the wheels are the standard torque thrust d wheel,15x8 1/2 and i think back spacing is 3 3/4.i had to narrow the rear end 1 1/2 on each side to get them to fit.no mini tubes, wheel wells are pretty big, springs are the closest problem.

psfracer-- i havent raced the car before.it bought it in 2003 with a 408 and drove around local.i hope to do a test and tune soon, but the car does not have a cage, just a nice 6 point roll bar.

jcoxracing-- i do have some pics of when i built the shock towers.i thought about just installing repo boss 429 towers, but they are $3500 a pair!also,an m2 front end,and all the others on the market are at least $2000 to start, and i believe that a properly set up mustang front end will be good to low 9s. john calverts 68 super stock car has gone 9.57 in legal trim, with a stock? factory 735 carb, and mostley stock front suspension.here is the other pics of shock towers.car is not a show car,but paint still looks good.
my big question,is am i going to need a front motor plate instead of motor mounts and torque straps??

source for the roller bearing spring perches????

Who was your source for the roller bearing spring perches???? I'm looking an dropping an Iron headed 460 into a Mach 1. Wanted to upgrade the front suspension because of the added weight, but don't want to cut shock towers.

Very Nice!

Looks great! What size tires? I tried a set of MT 28 x 10's ET Drags and they rubbed a little on passenger side at the 9 oclock position?? I have installed Cal Tracs and I hope the car lifts a bit more and doesn't rub. Otherwise it will be a set of 27" x 10's and the only drag slick I can find in that diameter with 10" of tread is a M&H Racemaster. Never seen one at the track.

Keep us posted on you build, it's a beauty:):):)

build info

ford429cjlover--- i bought the roller bearing coil spring perches on ebay.i think the guys id is mustangsteve.they are a nice product and really let the shocks work.

res0rli9-- the motor mounts are from crites.they are the second generation mounts that drop the engine and move back approx. .75.it just clears the firewall good and gives a little more room at the radiator.

coxracing--- i would really like to see pics of the motor plate?where do you get a nice one.how thick are they??

460fastback-- the tires are m/t 12.5x 28x 15 et streets.there is plenty of room in the wheel well, the big problem is the springs.i would like to lower the rear of the car a little, but i only have a quarter inch or so between tire and springs.dan.
