Coil Mounting - Does it have to be vertical?

This week my wife was out driving "her" (my) '71 and stopped by a local performance parts place. The guys there were critiquing the 466 install and told her I should have the coil (MSD blaster) mounted vertically or else the coil will die an early death. Right now I have it horzontal, mounted to the lower AC bracket while I am waiting for the $$$ to buy a new A/C compressor. Is there any truth to this?

Where do you guys usually mount your coils anyway?

Yes vertical, if it's an oil filled type ignition coil (I don't believe it's necessary if it's epoxy filled).

One thing I see happening is the screw in the center terminal coming loose and the oil dripping out. Happened to mine.

The other thing I see happening is with the coil mounted sideways AND if the oil level is low then one entire length of the coil is not submerged in the oil therefore not getting cooled and it would ultimately lead to coil failure.

Just my thoughts.
