Old school hyd valve adjustment.

Year's ago, we would adjust valves with the engine running. We would back off the rocker until you could hear the clatter then tighten it up 1/2 turn. I've since tried this on my HO small block with new springs and pedestal mounted roller rockers with good success. I fashioned a VC with a slot cut the full length. With the engine up to temp and running, I would back off the adj nut to where it made noise, then TORQUE the nut to 22 ft/lbs observing how far it would rotate. If it went a full turn for example, I would add the appropriate pedestal shim to bring that travel down to 1/8-1/4 turn past QUIET with the torque at 22 ft /lbs. It revs good to 6500 which is past its useful range with no noise. This is on a my roller lifter HO sb. Any reason this method wont work on a BBF? I have my 460 hauler that I use to pull my 5er that will drop a cylinder intermittently when warm and shows #2 header pipe @ 330* with all the rest around 240 to 260. This engine had the heads pulled years back to have hardened seats installed and a "clean up cut" only. Perhaps one valve seat is cut deeper than the rest? This did it before with the iron intake so I thought maybe it was a distribution problem. I finally got my Performer intake on and same problem. Thoughts?
Thanks
