Use stesoscope or vacuum line from ear to various areas of bellhousing, ect. to pinpoint area. Is the trans newly rebuilt?

 

I am literally waiting for my wife to get dressed so I can do exactly that.
The dog house is off and I can replicate the noise within 300 yards of my driveway; hill, 1st gear, 2100rpm.
The transmission has not been rebuilt, but it has been well maintained (filter change, fluid change)
I banged on the muffler and did not hear any rattling.
The transmission shifts fine with no slipping at all.
I was just wondering if anyone has heard that kind of noise coming from their transmission?

 

Yes I have had two problems now. First time the flex plate came loose from the crank, second time torque converter came loose from the flex plate always use lock tight!

 

I am now leaning towards the torque converter.
Ordered one today and will put it it right away and post results.
New flexplate, new nuts, same noise so I know it is not the flex plate.

When you punch it at said rpm,does the frequency pick up with engine speed because of converter slippage or does it seem to be more constant like in the trans itself?

 

I can fluctuate the noise with the throttle once it starts as long as I keep it in the 2100-2300 rpm range.
My guess was transmission because I thought I had done everything else to eliminate it.
The timing is set at 8* BTDC as recommended, but I am going to try retarding that to eliminate pre-detonation.
