Finally took my '64 Galaxie XL (466, maybe 475 horsepower, C/6, 3.70 traction lok) to the strip Saturday, 1/8 mile with super sticky starting line. On the fourth pass I did a burn out, went to the starting line, foot braked it, 3000 rpm, let off the brake, bang broke the rear end. 9" Ford in a cut down F150 housing, rebuilt by a professional, new gears, rebuilt trac lok, 31 spline mosier axles, 295/55/15 ET Streets with 28 lbs of air in them. Haven't took it apart yet, maybe tomorrow. The case and housing still intact, no leaks, but the housing has a distinct imprint of the ring gear, about 5 teeth. The rear end is off the ground, can rotate the wheels forward both at once, but not reverse, trans in neutral, any thoughts?
Anyway, I'm not messing around any more. Looking in the Jegs book and they offer a Strange S-series complete nodular Trak Lock third member, no horsepower rating, for $1210 and a Currie 9+ Sportsman complete nodular Trac Loc third member, rated up to 650 horsepower for $1260. I sure don't care about the $50 difference SO which one is the best??? It's a street car, maybe 6 or 8 races a year. I will be taking my 'box' full of parts back to the builder, lol.
Thanks.
